Breaking-The-Cycle on GPB PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The broadcast premiere of "The Road Beyond Abuse" aired April 15 at 9:00pm on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB).  Narrated by Jane Fonda, this ground-breaking, Emmy award winning documentary describes the heroic journey of two young adults, including Kennesaw State University graduate Johnnetta McSwain of Atlanta.  A victim of severe childhood abuse, Johnnetta's years at KSU were a turning point in her life. Today she has a Master's degree in Social Work and is the creator of the 12 step Self Awareness Module called Breaking the Cycle, Beating the Odds. Two of Johnnetta's professors, Jan Phillips and Leonard Witt, are also featured in the program.

GPB is devoting two hours of prime time programming on April 15 to the fight against child abuse.  Part Two of "The Road Beyond Abuse" will be an analysis by Georgia's top child abuse experts on issues raised in the documentary.  Throughout the evening child abuse professionals will be live in the GPB studios, answering viewers' calls who have questions or need further information.

In addition to the television premiere, we would like to invite you to a special viewing of the documentary on April 17, 2009 at Kennesaw State University. Johnnetta McSwain and others featured in the documentary will be present, along with executive producer Pamela Roberts from Georgia Public Broadcasting. There will be a reception following the documentary, and allotted time for questions and comments from the audience.   Please RSVP to attend.

Together.....we can win the war against child abuse.
